The American School in Japan (ASIJ; Japanese: アメリカンスクール・イン・ジャパン) is an international private day school located in the city of Chōfu, Tokyo, Japan. The school consists of an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school, all located on the Chōfu campus. There is also an early learning center (nursery-kindergarten) for children aged 3–5 located in the Roppongi Hills complex in downtown Tokyo. Instruction is in English and follows an American-style curriculum. About two thirds of the school's students are the children of citizens of a wide variety of countries who are on temporary assignment in Japan, and the remaining one third are Japanese students who speak English. The Good Schools Guide International called ASIJ "an impressive school, not only for its size and facilities but also for its strong sense of where it is going."

"The ASIJ is truly impressive. It was founded al the way in 1902. The school has a very big campus and the facilities are advanced. Students are also encouraged to pursue the arts, take subjects in robotics, and are connected to Japanese culture as well as the outside world. The school itself is like a bubble, and the students come from all nationalities, with locals comprising less than half the population. The buildings are well-maintained, and the curriculum is truly at par with high global standards."

"I worked with expatriates "expat" children, teenagers, and parents whose children attended ASIJ, outside of Tokyo. As a child and family therapist, I had an insiders perspective on the school. It's a bit far from where I lived (NishiAzabu), but kids and families went by car and train together. I think highly of ASIJ. International School Counselor John Bradley helped new students to adjust to life overseas pretty quickly, and did a good job supporting the college application process. Alumni of ASIJ are here in the Bay Area, CA."

"It's a great school, amazing education, why you should pick this school is that it's a difference maker, there is more academic choices than the other schools, the environment is always buzzing and lively, and Friday night lights are lit."
